How I Wash My Makeup Brushes

It's always a good idea to wash your makeup brushes often. Not only are you getting rid of dead skin cell and oil buildup, but  you are also reducing the amount of bacteria accumulation in your brushes, while reducing the amount of bacteria transfer onto your makeup products. I like to wash my brushes every two to four weeks depending on how much time I have, but if you have sensitive skin, it's a good idea to wash them more often.

I like to use baby shampoo to clean my brushes. A huge bottle of baby shampoo is very affordable and it will last you a long time!

Start out by washing each brush with warm water, being careful not to get any water up in the ferrule of the brushes- this can loosen the glue that is used to hold your brushes together!

Pour the brush shampoo of your choice into a plate and dip the brushes in, one by one...

And swirl them around to create a foamy lather! You will notice that the shampoo will get yucky and murky, but just replace it as often as necessary.

Next, rinse your brushes under the water while using your hands to get all the shampoo out. Make sure the brush isn't tilted upwards to prevent water from entering the ferrule once again.

Now it is time to dry your brushes! Prepare an area for drying your makeup brushes. You still want to keep the brushes upright to prevent water in the ferrule and to decrease the drying time. A good way to do this is to take a towel and roll one end of it to create an incline.

Place your brushes with the handles on the incline and tada! Your brushes will be dry overnight!
